I have the honour to inform you that Item 3,

Imports and Exports Office, on page 99 of the Estimates for the current year, has not been proceeded with.

In paragraph 7 of my Despatch No. 400 of the 2nd. November last, I mentioned that it had become necessary to revise the design of the building and to provide for a consider- -ably larger one, the plene end estimate for which would be sent later on.

I enclose the plans which have been prepared,

and a report of the proceedings of the Public Works Committee to which I referred them. You will observe that as designed the buildings provide more accommodation than is at present required, but that notwithstanding this the Committee recommends that the buildings should be so constructed as to be capable of being increased to five stories in height.

I endorse the recommendations of the Public Works Committee. The Department for which the building is intend- -ed is likely to grow with the growth of the Colony and the Government has no Crown Land in the vicinity on which to make extensions along the ground.
